From gwei to dollars
One gwei is 10^-9 ETH, so a fee in ETH is gas_units times gas_price(gwei) times 10^-9. Multiplying that ETH amount by an ETH/USD price gives the dollar cost. Gwei alone is not a total; you need the gas units and a price to reach a USD figure.
You supply the price
The USD conversion uses an ETH/USD price you enter. The tool makes no network call and reads no price oracle, so the result reflects exactly the price you choose, which is useful for modeling different market conditions.
