Placement, Layering, Integration
Placement, layering, and integration are the three stages of money laundering, covering how illicit funds enter the system, are obscured, and are ultimately reintroduced as apparently legitimate value.
Placement introduces criminal proceeds into the financial system; layering moves them through complex transactions to sever the audit trail; integration returns the now-obscured funds as seemingly clean assets. In crypto, placement may be an on-ramp deposit, layering a series of swaps and mixer hops, and integration a cash-out to a reputable exchange or purchase. Controls target each stage. Our platform maps to them through KYT transaction screening at placement, multi-hop fund-flow tracing and an exposure breakdown to unwind layering, and address risk-scores at cash-out that flag funds whose history points back to an illicit origin.
