Consolidating the crypto backend stack behind one key

The typical crypto backend is four vendors in a trench coat: an RPC node for chain access, an indexer for derived data, a screening vendor for compliance, and a custody/transfer API for moving funds. Each is defensible in isolation. Together they impose a tax that rarely shows up in the build estimate.

The integration tax

Four vendors means four authentication schemes, four rate-limit models, four failure modes, and four data shapes that must be reconciled in your code. An address is a string in one, a checksummed hex in another; a transaction is normalized differently in each. Most of the glue code in a crypto backend exists only to paper over these seams.

Where the seams leak

The expensive failures live between vendors. Your indexer says a deposit landed but your RPC node hasn't seen the reorg that reversed it. Your screening vendor flags an address your custody API already paid out to. Consistency across independent providers is your problem to solve, and it is the class of bug that reaches production.

What consolidation buys

One key over RPC, indexed data, screening and processing means one auth flow, one consistent view of an address and a transaction, and one place where reorg handling and finality are already reconciled. You still choose which primitives to use — the point is that they agree with each other by construction rather than by your glue code.

Частые вопросы

Doesn't consolidation mean vendor lock-in?

The lock-in risk is real with any provider. The mitigation is standards-compatible surfaces — JSON-RPC for chain access, conventional REST for the rest — so the primitives you build on are portable even when the account isn't.

Is one provider ever as deep as four specialists?

For frontier features a specialist can lead. The trade is depth-per-tool against consistency-across-tools; for most backends the reconciliation cost of four data models outweighs the marginal depth of any one.
